January / February Newsletter
My apologies to everyone that received another copy of December's newsletter! I was using it to write this month's and I somehow copy and pasted it into the e-mail field. Please disregard that last e-mail. I am SO sorry everyone! *blushes!!*

Jasson's and my college classes are keeping us busy, so we've been pretty bad about responding to much of anything short of a poke from a cattle prod. ^^;; Unfortunately, we're likely going to become even more unresponsive since we're getting ready to move in real life.

We're still working on restoring a few final authors when we get the chance in between classes. Sorry we haven't finished that up yet.

Moderators
------------------------
As some of you may know, in January I posted a request for Moderators in order to help with the newly submitted fics. These are great people who have volunteered to read over your stories and post them to the archive.

Please give a warm welcome to your new moderators: Arametha, KitKaze, and SilvernFalcon! ^_^

SilvernFalcon now oversees the Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam Seed/Destiny/Wing, Inuyasha, and Yu-Gi-Oh categories while Arametha and KitKaze oversee the rest of the archive.

Thank you so much, you guys rock! ^_^

Readers' Choice Awards
Arametha has lost no time in exercising his newfound powers by suggesting numerous additions to our archive. ^_^ One thing he's suggested is a Readers' Choice Awards. I wanted to give a few months in-between challenges, but I do like this idea.

So I'm leaving it up to all of you. If you'd like to begin the awards contest, speak up and let us know! Arametha will likely be the one in charge, unless someone else would like to do it. ^_^

Winter Challenge Series.
The Winter Challenge Series also wrapped up earlier this week. We received four entries, which can be found below. Voting will continue for the next month, which you can find on the main page. ^_^

Demons or Devils? by Hakkyou Kaosu

Winter Solace by Crimson

Winter's Wishes by Hakkyou Kaosu

Winter Wonderland by Black Symphony

Random Challenges.

"A Day in My Life - The Documented Chronicles of *insert name*'s Shoe" by Kitkaze
Alright this challenge is a silly test of how well you all know an anime character. (and the brainchild of ALOT of sugar) Choose one anime series any series any at all and choose one character from that series, just make sure its one you know very well. And do what the title says, a day in the life of that characters shoe. Written in first person, or well first shoe, and using the title above as the title of the story. It doesn't need to be elaborate, just a one shot is good, something that the reader will go away saying "wow that was wierd, but damn the author REALLY knows what that character is like or does on a day to day basis." Oh and if the character you want to choose doesn't wear a shoe, improvise! I'll check back frequently to see if anyone is shoe enough to take my challenge! Enjoy and Happy Writing! ~Kit

"Taijutsu Romance" by Kage Iki
A Reader x Rock Lee story/one shot. o.o There aren't any of these and even if I do finally get around to making one it wouldn't be the same. Thus, I challenge who ever will listen to create one.

Requiremets: No OOCs; unless there is a very good reason for it. Must be a romance. And no sad endings. >.> Call me sappy, but I like it to end happy.

As a reminder, if you don't like any of these, you CAN issue your own challenge in the challenges area. Simply go to: http://www.lunaescence.com/fics/challenges.php and click "Issue a Challenge!" You'll be taken to a page where you can fill out a challenge form. Please be sure you submit them to the right category, so your target authors can find them.

Rule Update
------------------------
Don't look so concerned, I haven't added anything. ^^;

Actually Indefatigable42 recently wrote me to let me know about some (pretty embarrassing) grammatical errors I had in the rules. Thanks to her help, those errors have been fixed.

She also helped to clarify rule #6, which I didn't realize was causing confusion. Rule number 6 used to say that we don't allow real person slash or yaoi, or stories that depicted adults having sex with children. Well, this was apparently causing confusion with YAOI and slash authors, who thought I was saying we don't allow YAOI or slash anything.

It now reads: "We do not allow the following types of fan fiction: (1) any stories that depict adults having sex with children, and (2) any stories that depict real people (e.g. actors, singers, athletes) in sexual situations, explicit or otherwise."

Hopefully this reduces the confusion over this rule. Thank you so much, Indefatigable42! You've been a tremendous help! ^_^

(If anyone wants to know our reasoning, please check our LiveJournal Community where I've left a detailed explanation. Feel free to jump into the discussion or leave a comment. You don't need a LJ account.)

The Front Desk
------------------------
Featured Anime/Manga by Arametha.

Ranma 1/2.
"Before the half-demon, there was the half-man. When Ranma falls into a magical spring while in training in China, he is cursed with the best and worst of two genders. When he is splashed with hot water, he becomes a girl, and only changes back when splashed with hot water! From the author of InuYasha, Rumiko Takahashi."

This month's poll.
Which is your favorite story from the Winter Challenge Series?
- Demons or Devils? by Hakkyou Kaosu
- Winter Solace by Crimson
- Winter's Wishes by Hakkyou Kaosu
- Winter Wonderland by Black Symphony

This Month's Features.

Featured Story:
'Jealousy' by baka_kozo. In a well-written angst, baka_kozo offers a new point of view on realationships. Keep his advice in mind this Valentine's Day... or use it as an excuse. (Nominated by Arametha)

Author Spotlight:
edwardmorte. Vampires and romance mix well in Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, and edwardmorte gives you a sip of her novels in fan fiction. Shaken, not stirred. (Nominated by Arametha)

Experiments
------------------------
As I wrote in December's newsletter, we were conducting a few experiments.

Story Type: This will display what type of story your writing is. Since we have a growing collection of song-fics, CYOAs, Reader Inserts, etc. I wanted to experiment with a new feature that would allow visitors to sort by what type of story they're looking for. I created a brief poll to see what everyone's opinion was and most of the responders said they needed more time to decide. We'll give another month to see how everyone likes the option and then we'll see what you think. ^_^

Avatar: Avatars have expanded so all validated authors can now sport their own, custom avatar. ^_^ Enjoy!

Adult +: At the request of several of our YAOI, yuri, slash, and femslash authors, we've added a new rating to our available story ratings. In terms of rating, this is the same as our regular [Adult] rating. However, this rating does something different with your story if you choose to use it. It will make it so your story can *only* be read by registered users who have agreed to the age waiver in their user profiles.

Since I'm not sure if the age waiver actually works, I'm going to ask anyone who wants to use this rating to please include a disclaimer in their author notes. I also ask that you use this rating *only* if your story actually *has* explicit content.

Re: Avatar
Avatars are only available to authors who have been validated, that is -- given permission to skip the moderation queue. Since hackers have used this feature to upload hacking scripts in the past, I can't offer them to newly registered members. Sorry!
